Travio
A travel app that makes planning your perfect trip effortless, combining flights, accommodations, and unique experiences all in one place.
challenges
Creating the Problem: As a self-initiated project, Travio was developed as a design exercise to showcase my skills in crafting a cohesive travel platform.
Target Audience Needs: Modern travellers often feel overwhelmed by juggling multiple websites and apps for trip planning, resulting in fragmented and time-consuming experiences.
Business/User Goals: The project aimed to simulate how a travel app could stand out by merging convenience, UX design clarity, and inspirational trip-planning features.
solutions
Unified Platform: Designed a seamless interface where users can book flights, accommodations, and activities without needing to switch between apps.
Inspiring Home Page: Showcased visually engaging destination recommendations to spark travel ideas.
Search Simplification: Introduced dynamic search filters for flights and stays, allowing users to customise their preferences easily.
Booking Clarity: Included step-by-step booking flows with progress indicators, ensuring users always know where they are in the process.
This project began with light research, including an analysis of leading travel platforms like Expedia and Airbnb, to identify common pain points and opportunities for improvement. I created user personas based on typical travel-planning behaviours, such as budget-conscious travellers and adventure seekers. These insights informed the development of a clean, user-centred interface that prioritised simplicity and inspiration.
My design process was heavily UI-focused, starting with sketching initial layouts for key pages and booking flow. These were translated into mid-fidelity wireframes, before refining into high-fidelity designs. I aimed to strike a balance between functionality and visual appeal, leveraging engaging imagery and intuitive navigation patterns.
To simulate real-world testing, I created interactive prototypes and sought feedback from Community sites like Behance and Reddit. This helped to refine all areas from visual branding, hierarchy, to overall usability. Accessibility was considered throughout with colour contrast and typography choices.
01
I split up the design stages according to a 4 week timeplan to be launch-ready.
02
Key themes of feedback were analysed, leading to the development of well-defined user personas that informed the design process.
03
I created the sitemap after identifying the key functionalities, ensuring a logical flow that aligned with the needs of the target audience (and of course the app’s core objectives).
04
The first low-fi screens served as the foundation for feedback and allowed for early validation of design concepts
05
I developed the high-fidelity branding after conducting further online research, drafting mood boards, and analysing competitor brands.

Lessons Learned:
Focusing on UI provided valuable practice in visual storytelling and designing cohesive brand experiences.
Future iterations could benefit from deeper UX exploration, such as usability testing with real users.
Next Steps:
Develop case study content further by incorporating user feedback through usability testing.
Experiment with micro-interactions and animations to enhance user engagement.
